STMicroelectronics & ProvenRun attain key security certification
Thu, 1st Feb 2024

In a major advancement in cybersecurity, ST Microelectronics and ProvenRun recently achieved Level 3 security certification for the STM32Trust TEE Secure Manager. This collaboration between a global semiconductor expert, STMicroelectronics, and cybersecurity software company, ProvenRun, marks the fulfilment of a target set less than a year ago. Leveraging advanced technology, this certification facilitates a robust security solution for developers, significantly reducing costs associated with attaining security certifications.

The STM32Trust TEE Secure Manager, a product of ProvenRun's state-of-the-art ProvenCoreM technology, is the first system-on-chip solution of its kind. When utilised on STMicroelectronics' flagship microcontroller, STM32H5, it simplifies embedded application development and provides guaranteed protection. As a result, innovative products can now be deployed at a fraction of the regular cost, making it a significant stride for the industry.

The Level 3 certification, culminating from the application of SESIP (Security Evaluation Standard for IoT Platforms) methodologies to PSA (Protection Profile for Secure Evaluation of IoT Platforms), enables IoT ecosystem associates to accredit security certifications to products that use the STM32H5. It thus eliminates additional costs normally incurred during the process. This has made the launch a significant milestone in IoT device security.

Thierry Chesnais, CEO of ProvenRun, conveyed his excitement regarding the certification of the STM32Trust TEE Secure Manager. He emphasised that this achievement simplifies stronger security for developers, ensuring the safeguarding of innovation in intelligent edge devices. Chesnais expressed eagerness to continue collaborating with ST to enhance the protection of connected devices: "We are looking forward to continuing our collaboration with ST to better protect connected devices," he said.

The milestone certifications come on the back of ProvenRun's EURO €15 million Series A funding in December. Led by Tikehau Capital's Definvest fund, in partnership with the French Ministry of Defence, this funding accelerated the Paris-based cybersecurity company's global expansion, particularly in the automotive, aerospace/defence and semiconductor industries.

ProvenRun, founded by entrepreneur Dominique Bolignano, offers the world's most secure operating system (OS) and applications for connected vehicles, smart devices, and IoT-enabled hardware. Their flagship OS, ProvenCore, is the only OS that has achieved the highest certification level (EAL7) on common criteria. Focusing on critical industries, ProvenRun's cutting-edge technology effectively addresses the cybersecurity challenges facing the IoT industry today.

Moreover, STMicroelectronics has more than 50,000 creators and makers of semiconductor technologies, mastering the semiconductor supply chain with state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities. An integrated device manufacturer, the company works with over 200,000 customers and thousands of partners to design and build products, solutions, and ecosystems that address their challenges and opportunities and the need to support a more sustainable world. Its technologies enable smarter mobility, more efficient power and energy management, and the wide-scale deployment of the Internet of Things and connectivity. The company is committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2027.
