Samsung unveils Galaxy S25 Edge with enhanced AI features

Today

Samsung has disclosed the full specifications of its Galaxy S25 Edge, expanding its Galaxy S series with a slim and lightweight smartphone featuring upgraded camera capabilities and Galaxy AI integration.

The Galaxy S25 Edge features a slim 5.8mm profile and weighs 163 grams, marking a shift in smartphone design that emphasises portability without compromising on build quality. The device utilises a titanium frame and is equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on the front display, which enhances both the vibrancy and strength of the screen.

The device's camera system consists of a 200MP wide lens with improved Nightography and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor with autofocus. The large pixel size of the main camera enables sharper photos, and the autofocus-powered ultra-wide sensor allows for detailed macro photography. Samsung has also included the ProVisual Engine from its Galaxy S25 model, which is designed to yield professional-grade image enhancements, such as sharp detail reproduction for clothing and plants, and more realistic skin tones in portraits.

Commenting on the new smartphone, TM Roh, President and Acting Head of the Device eXperience Division at Samsung Electronics, said, "Galaxy S25 Edge is more than a slim smartphone. The superior engineering that brought this revolutionary smartphone to life illustrates a commitment to overcoming barriers that helps Galaxy deliver truly unexpected premium experiences for people around the world. S25 Edge not only marks a breakthrough for its category, but it also accelerates important innovation across the mobile industry."

The Galaxy S25 Edge also incorporates Galaxy AI across its suite of features, offering on-device, context-aware experiences. AI-powered camera tools such as Audio Eraser and Drawing Assist have been integrated, providing advanced photo and video editing options directly on the device. Audio Eraser enables the removal of unwanted noises from videos while Drawing Assist goes further by helping users generate AI-powered sketches over images.

Samsung has equipped the device with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy, extending top-tier performance and on-device AI processing found across the Galaxy S25 series. The internal design features a reconfigured vapor chamber to facilitate heat dissipation while maintaining the device's slimness.

The 6.7-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display offers a 120Hz refresh rate with adaptive adjustment and a vision booster for clearer viewing under various conditions. The durable construction is complemented by an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.

Samsung's mDNIe mobile Digital Natural Image engine and the ProScaler feature are also included. According to the company, this results in a 40% improvement in display image scaling quality compared to the previous Galaxy S24 series, based on peak signal-to-noise ratio testing.

The smartphone runs on Android 15 with One UI 7 and supports 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi 7, Wi-Fi Direct, and Bluetooth 5.4. Storage options include 12GB of RAM paired with either 256GB or 512GB of storage. The device's 3,900mAh battery supports fast wired and wireless charging, as well as Wireless PowerShare functionality.

On the AI front, Samsung notes that the Galaxy S25 Edge integrates personalised, multimodal AI capabilities. These AI functions are enhanced by on-device processing, which, according to Samsung, keeps personal data secure within its Knox Vault security framework. Galaxy AI features function across multiple apps, and the device comes with new and updated features such as Now Brief and Now Bar, both of which can integrate with selected third-party applications to provide reminders and context-driven notifications during everyday activities.

Deepening its collaboration with Google, Samsung has incorporated Gemini's latest conversational AI capabilities. Gemini Live on the Galaxy S25 Edge allows users to share camera and screen views in real-time while interacting with the AI during live conversations.

Regarding privacy, Samsung emphasises: "Experiences powered by Galaxy AI on Galaxy S25 Edge aren't just convenient—they're designed with privacy at the core. On-device AI processing ensures data is secured by Samsung Knox Vault, continuing Samsung's unwavering commitment to ensure hyper-personalised mobile experiences."

The Galaxy S25 Edge is set for release on 30 May and will be offered in Titanium Silver, Titanium Jetblack, and the online-exclusive Titanium Icyblue colour. The 12GB/512GB variant will retail at AUD $2,049, while the 12GB/256GB model will be available at AUD $1,849. Pre-orders placed before 29 May will receive a bonus storage upgrade from Samsung and participating retailers.
