OWC unveils Thunderbolt 5 Hub with enhanced features

Today

Other World Computing has announced the release of the OWC Thunderbolt 5 Hub, offering expanded connectivity options for users of Macs, PCs, and tablets.

The OWC Thunderbolt 5 Hub turns a single cable connection into three Thunderbolt 5 ports and one USB-A port, providing up to 80Gb/s of bi-directional data speed and up to 120Gb/s for higher display bandwidth needs. This device enhances productivity by allowing connections to portable SSDs exceeding 6000MB/s, up to three 8K displays at 60Hz with Display Stream Compression (DSC), USB-C connector compatible devices, and USB-A desktop accessories. It also provides 140 watts of power, enough to keep modern laptops and tablets charged during mobile use.

Key features of the hub include the ability to expand port options on a range of devices, delivering up to 80Gb/s of data speed and 120Gb/s for displays. It is fully compatible with devices using Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3, USB-C, or USB4, ensuring it works with millions of machines. It also allows the creation of multiple daisy chains of bus-powered devices, safely delivering power and charging capabilities.

"The bi-directional bandwidth design of the OWC Thunderbolt 5 Hub enables users to send and receive data simultaneously - making it ideal for connecting high-res displays, SSDs, and more without compromising speed," said Larry O'Connor, Founder and CEO of Other World Computing. "With three additional Thunderbolt 5 ports, users gain the flexibility to power multiple displays or create complex daisy chains with ease. The hub's 140W power delivery guarantees notebooks and tablets remain charged, no matter how demanding the workload."

O'Connor also highlighted the benefit for tablet users: "For tablet users, the OWC Thunderbolt 5 Hub turns any iPad Pro or tablet into a pro workstation. Connect external drives, displays, and peripherals to unlock the tablet's full potential – without being tethered to a bulky desktop or laptop."

The OWC Thunderbolt 5 Hub is available for pre-order at USD $189.99 and is scheduled to begin shipping in December. Pricing and availability may vary by region.
