FYI, this story is more than a year old

NEC has backed up a number of major customer wins by supplying Victoria's newly opened $447.5 million redevelopment of Eastern Health's Box Hill Hospital with its new core ICT infrastructure.

NEC won the business through a competitive tender process - something they've recently done several times following wins with the Department of Defence, the Northern Territory Government and South Australia Police. They've made significant inroads into the health care sector, completing significant projects with Epworth Eastern Private Hospital, NSW Health, SA Health, WA Health and the Northern Territory Government.

The project, which commenced with a tender process in 2012, was completed recently with the next stage of development already in progress.

The solution covered everything from backend infrastructure, integrating hardware and services from a number of vendors including Cisco, ASCOM, SPOK and Wavelink, through to display systems and unified communications. NEC Australia's proposal covered the design, procurement and implementation of the new building's ICT network, telephone system and data center.

Customers and staff have been able to benefit a comprehensive digital display and signage system that includes commercial displays, touchscreens and NEC Live digital communications software with embedded signage players.

NEC Live drives internal digital communications. Staff updates are displayed on NEC commercial displays throughout the new facility with health and safety messaging, directional signage with way finding, emergency messaging and integration into administration support, including room bookings, queue systems and call centre data.

Eastern Health Box Hill Hospital has, according to NEC, "access to NEC experts who can deliver immediate on-site support when required". NEC recently sold their long-standing Mulgrave headquarters and are moving staff to the Melbourne CBD with a second location being sought for support and technical R-D functions.
