M-Cube debuts 'Green Signage' to cut energy use by half
M-Cube, a provider of in-store digital solutions, has introduced its pioneering 'Green Signage' protocol, aimed at reducing the energy consumption of digital signage by up to 50%. This release coincides with the European Union's introduction of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation. The new legislation seeks to enhance the circularity, energy efficiency, and overall environmental impact of products within the EU, compelling retailers to promptly adhere to these standards.
To address the pressing need for sustainability, M-Cube has outlined four key technological advancements designed to reduce energy consumption significantly. These technologies—power steer, content playout, visualisation tuning, and content creation—are integrated seamlessly within retail settings.
The 'Green Signage' protocol incorporates several innovative elements. Among these is a smart socket that delivers regular energy reports and ensures disconnection at scheduled times. Additionally, a customised video player digital signage platform features settings designed to minimise energy consumption. Specially tuned LCD/LED screens, combined with adapted content designs, guarantee adherence to green parameters. When these elements are implemented correctly, M-Cube asserts that energy consumption can be reduced by between 30% and 50%.
The technologies underpinning the 'Green Signage' protocol have undergone extensive lab testing and have received certification from IMQ, a leading Italian body specialising in conformity assessment and product, quality, and business management systems certification. Retailers stand to benefit significantly from these innovations, with advantages including lower energy costs, the convenience of remotely controlling displays, and compliance with progressively stringent regulations aimed at reducing carbon footprints.
A study published in Science revealed that global sky brightness increased by approximately 9.6% per year between 2011 and 2022, highlighting the urgent need for more sustainable practices in the digital signage industry. M-Cube's protocol represents a proactive step towards addressing these environmental challenges and underlines the company's commitment to sustainability.
Manlio Romanelli, President of M-Cube, commented on the new protocol: "With growing pressure from customers and sustainability regulation expected to be enforced, the digital signage industry is in need of more environmentally-friendly practices, and fast. Our 'Green Signage' protocol delivers an exciting and ambitious option for retailers. With less energy consumption and increased savings, M-Cube is leading the way for in-store digital solutions and once again cementing itself as the ideal partner for retailers looking to the future."
M-Cube's initiative aligns with the broader industry trend of enhancing product sustainability and finding innovative solutions for a greener future. The company's commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency sets a new standard in a rapidly evolving market landscape.
