Australian Pharmaceutical Industries unveils myAPI platform

Today

Australian Pharmaceutical Industries has launched myAPI, a new B2B eCommerce platform built in partnership with Publicis Sapient and designed to improve digital services for over 4,000 wholesale pharmacy customers.

myAPI is built on the SAP Commerce Cloud and was developed to streamline processes for API's pharmacy clients, providing tools for product research, ordering, stock and account management, handling of returns, and facilitating backorder management.

The system provides continuous access to key products and information through a 24/7 online portal, aiming to enhance both convenience and operational efficiency within the pharmacy sector. Pharmacies are able to identify stock on hand, obtain pricing and promotional deals, and manage their accounts through the new e-Hub.

The platform also houses key documents for customers and offers communication and customer support facilities within the portal environment, centralising functions frequently used by pharmacy retail operators.

Doug Swan, Executive General Manager of Wholesale & Pharmacy Services at Wesfarmers Health, commented on the release: "By investing in technology like myAPI, we're ensuring pharmacy owners have 24/7 access to critical products and essential information at their fingertips. This means more convenience and flexibility, and empowers them to serve their communities with confidence knowing they have what patients need, when they need it."

One of the objectives for myAPI is to help pharmacies maintain compliance with Community Service Obligations assigned to pharmaceutical wholesalers, notably the timely provision of Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme items, which must be delivered within 24 hours as per federal health regulations.

This focus on compliance is aligned with API's emphasis on customer self-service, and the company states that uninterrupted digital access will allow it to meet rigorous service level expectations for pharmaceutical supply.

The design, development, and implementation of myAPI was led by Publicis Sapient, working with both API and Wesfarmers Health teams to deploy the new solution across the pharmacy network.

John Costello, Retail & Consumer Managing Partner & CTO Australia at Publicis Sapient, said: "myAPI plays an important role in ensuring millions of Australians can access the medicine and wellness products they need. It was vital that the new platform delivered a seamless user experience while increasing customer satisfaction and enhancing operational efficiency. We were privileged to be able to support the API and Wesfarmers Health team with the design, development and implementation of the new myAPI platform and are delighted to see it roll out successfully."

API, a subsidiary of Wesfarmers Health, is a wholesaler and distributor of pharmaceutical goods to pharmacies and operates a range of retail health brands across Australia. The implementation of myAPI forms part of the company's strategy to improve both digital and logistical capabilities for its B2B partners across the pharmacy sector.
