The Ultimate Guide to Internet of Things
2024 edition
Overview

Also known as IoT.

When objects are equipped with sensors and those sensors communicate with other devices, the Internet of Things is established. What sets IoT apart from smartphones or laptops or even smartwatches communicating over dedicated networks like LoraWAN or SigFox, or public networks like the Internet, is the removal of humans from the exchange. ‘Machine to machine’ communications are useful for the collection and exchange of data for tracking, temperature or moisture control, simple ‘on or off’ controls (such as lighting), monitoring of levels of any kind, and many other applications.
