VisionTV revamps OB van with Blackmagic partnership for events
VisionTV, a prominent player in Australia's live event broadcasting sector, has significantly enhanced its capabilities with the introduction of a newly customised outside broadcasting (OB) van.
This development marks a strategic partnership with Blackmagic Design, a global innovator in video editing and broadcast technology.
Scott Richardson, founder and CEO of VisionTV, has overseen the transformation of a retired TV van into a state-of-the-art mobile broadcast unit. Richardson, a seasoned director of photography with over 44 years of experience including high-profile projects such as Australian Idol, has guided VisionTV from its origins as a family-run business to its current status as a key player in live event production.
The OB van is equipped with advanced Blackmagic Design technology, including the ATEM 4 M/E Constellation 4K live production switcher paired with an ATEM 2 M/E Advanced Panel, MultiDock SSD recorders, SmartView 4K monitors, and Videohub routers. This cutting-edge equipment allows VisionTV to quickly set up, produce high-quality live streams, and facilitate big-screen presentations essential for events like rodeos.
Richardson emphasised the importance of these enhancements, stating, "The ability to quickly set up and break down at events without compromising the quality of the broadcast is essential for us. With Blackmagic Design's reliable and high-performing equipment, our new OB van can meet the demands of fast-moving live production. Whether we are on the side of a racing track or set up in a hotel, we can rely on the OB van to ensure we deliver the best possible viewer experience."
VisionTV has focused on expanding into the niche market of rodeo events, driven by a partnership with the Australian Bushmen's Campdraft and Rodeo Association (ABCRA) and the launch of the dedicated rodeo streaming service watch.abcra.tv. The new OB van's capabilities play a critical role in this strategic move, enabling rapid deployment and versatile operations across various locations.
The operational benefits of the new OB van have been evident from its immediate use in the field. VisionTV has received positive feedback from clients and audiences for its efficiency in setup and versatility in handling multiple types of broadcasts, ranging from rodeos to football games. This has also led to a noticeable increase in client interest and bookings.
Reflecting on the feedback received, Richardson noted, "We've honestly been surprised at the enthusiastic response we've had from our clients after we introduced the new OB van. Whether it's for traditional broadcast players or more niche streaming services, our ability to quickly and cost-effectively deploy professional broadcast services, almost regardless of location, is getting a lot of attention. In the modern era where budgets are under constant scrutiny, being able to outfit such a capable networking and production solution at a low cost is why Blackmagic Design has become an internationally recognised and respected part of the broadcast industry."
The implementation of Blackmagic Design equipment has allowed VisionTV to position itself strategically within the competitive landscape of live event broadcasting in Australia. This initiative is expected to enable the company to cater to a broader array of events while maintaining high production standards.
