IWD 2024: The success mantra for women technologists
Fri, 8th Mar 2024

In the dynamic landscapes of technology and law, women around the world are pioneering paths of triumph, demonstrating resilience, determination, and unwavering ambition. From humble beginnings to thriving careers, their journeys illuminate the possibilities and challenges faced by women in these fields.

My own journey in technology and law began with a single step into the world of software development. As a trainee developer, I embraced the challenges of balancing work and studies, driven by a passion for learning and growth. Despite familial differences that limited parental support, I persevered, determined to carve out a successful career in technology.

Transitioning from a developer to a senior developer presented new opportunities for growth and leadership. While the tech industry remains predominantly male-dominated, I approached this challenge with unwavering determination. Rather than allowing gender biases and stereotypes to define my path, I focused on showcasing my technical skills and commitment to excellence. Through hard work and perseverance, I earned recognition for my contributions and leadership in driving projects forward.

With each promotion, I shattered glass ceilings and defied societal expectations, proving that gender is not a determinant of success in the tech world. The role of cloud application architect marked a significant milestone, empowering me to design and implement innovative solutions that leverage cloud technologies to shape the future of technology.

Seeking to broaden my horizons, I pursued opportunities in diverse companies across different countries and cultures, including world-class organisations like Microsoft. Working alongside great minds in these esteemed organisations, I benefited immensely from their mentorship and guidance, which played a pivotal role in shaping who I am today.

Each experience brought its own set of challenges, from adapting to new work environments to navigating unfamiliar cultural norms. Yet, I faced each challenge head-on, drawing strength from my resilience and determination.

My success in the tech industry can be attributed to my aptitude for coding and logical reasoning. These skills not only allowed me to excel in my roles but also paved the path for my continued growth and advancement. Coding provided me with the ability to solve complex problems and think critically, essential qualities for success in the ever-evolving field of technology.

Today, as an industry analyst, I leverage my expertise to explore emerging trends and guide clients through the complexities of the digital landscape. My journey serves as a beacon of hope, inspiring other women to pursue diverse career paths and break down societal barriers.

For women in India or globally, for that matter, aspiring to enter or excel in the field of technology, I would offer the following advice:

  1. Believe in yourself
  2. Embrace learning
  3. Build a support network
  4. Don't fear failure
  5. Stand up for yourself
  6. Pay it forward

As we celebrate International Women's Day, let us honour the journeys of women who have defied the odds, shattered glass ceilings, and paved the way for future generations. In India, where only around 29% of STEM workers are women, may their triumphs inspire more women to join these fields and create a more inclusive and diverse future.
