Serco extends nimbus contract to support global workforce

Wed, 28th Aug 2024

Serco Group has announced the extension of its contract with Australian workforce management software provider, nimbus Cloud, for an additional three years. This extension solidifies a strategic relationship that will now span nine years, aiming to maintain and improve workforce conditions and productivity for thousands of staff across the globe.

The extended contract will see over 24,000 Serco employees, ranging from non-clinical medical staff in remote Australian military facilities to National Health Service (NHS) workers in British hospitals, benefit from nimbus’ advanced workforce management platform. The platform will also support staff in US and UK military establishments and airports across the Middle East.

Nimbus' smart technology has been pivotal in optimising Serco’s workforce, providing tools that allow the company to efficiently schedule the right staff with the appropriate skills across various teams, departments, and locations. The platform's AI-driven capabilities have been integral in eliminating the guesswork from scheduling and offering insights for more informed decision-making.

Since 2018, nimbus has been instrumental in supporting the productivity and safety of Serco workers across more than 400 locations worldwide, including Asia Pacific, the United Kingdom, North America, and the Middle East. The platform has allowed Serco to scale its operations and automate business processes efficiently.

Grant Custance, CEO of nimbus, reflected on the long-standing collaboration between the two companies. “We have been collaborating with Serco for several years to help them continuously deliver the best service to their customers through the support of our nimbus technology,” Custance said. “Serco has one of the most complex and challenging working environments in the world, due to its highly diverse markets and skillsets which its staff are required to maintain. Our Australian-developed technology has played a crucial role in helping address these unique needs.”

The nimbus solution offers several key benefits to Serco’s operations:

  • Real-Time Staffing Overview: The platform allows Serco to view staffing levels in real time at a site level, providing a snapshot of workforce deployment at any point during the day.
  • Automated Scheduling: Nimbus enables automatic scheduling based on forecasted demand and daily operational dynamics, allowing Serco to manage staff hours more effectively and flexibly.
  • Pan-Operation Scheduling: This feature enhances the utilisation of staff hours across various operations, ensuring optimal workforce deployment.
  • Electronic Time Sheets: Time sheets are captured electronically and auto-approved based on configurable rules, streamlining administrative processes.
  • Skills Tracking and Forecasting: Centralised skills tracking and schedule forecasting help meet the stringent requirements of many government contracts, utilising nimbus’ Skills Engine.
  • Mobile Accessibility: Employees can interact with the nimbus native application on iOS and Android devices, allowing them to provide their upcoming availability, view scheduled training, and submit leave applications on the go.

The nimbus solution is already deployed across a diverse range of Serco’s operations, including the US Space Force Surveillance System in the US and Mexico, Air Traffic Control Towers across the US, Airport Services in the Middle East, NHS hospitals across Central London, and Fiona Stanley Hospital in Perth, Australia.
