Pure Storage & Micron expand partnership for data centres

Yesterday

Pure Storage has announced the expansion of its collaboration with Micron Technology to provide high-capacity, energy-efficient solutions for hyperscale data centres.

This extended partnership focuses on integrating Micron G9 QLC NAND into future DirectFlash Module products. The collaboration spans a decade, involving seven generations of Micron's NAND technology, including the Micron G8 QLC NAND, which is part of Pure Storage's 150TB DirectFlash Module production. This solution combines large drive capacities and high performance with improved energy efficiency.

Data centres today face challenges around energy efficiency, storage density, and performance. High energy consumption is a significant concern, influencing operational expenses and environmental impact. As data centres expand, they are often space-constrained, making it crucial to fit more storage into limited spaces. Meanwhile, the demand for faster data processing is growing, driven by the need for rapid insights.

Pure Storage and Micron's collaboration presents a solution that promises to improve the total cost of ownership compared to older hard drive-based systems. Among the key advantages are improved performance and reduced latency, enabled by the integration of Pure Storage's platform with Micron's NAND technology. This joint solution also aims to reduce energy consumption significantly, addressing cost and environmental concerns. Additionally, the solution offers rack-dense, scalable storage systems at a lower cost of acquisition and ownership.

Bill Cerreta, General Manager, Hyperscale, Pure Storage, said, "Pure Storage's collaboration with Micron is another example of our significant momentum bringing the benefits of all-flash storage technology to hyperscale environments. With Micron's advanced NAND technology, Pure Storage can further optimise storage scalability, performance, and energy efficiency for an industry with unparalleled requirements."

Jeremy Werner, SVP & GM, Storage Business Unit, Micron, added, "Micron's advanced NAND technologies, combined with Pure's innovative storage solutions, enable data centre operators to address the increasing performance, efficiency, and scalability needs for today's hyperscale data centres. Built on trust and thriving on innovation, our collaboration with Pure Storage consistently offers cutting-edge storage solutions for hyperscale and enterprise environments."
