Norton launches AI-powered scam protection globally
Norton has announced the integration of AI-powered scam protection into its Cyber Safety products, offering enhanced security against scams and social engineering threats.
The latest enhancement, branded as Genie Scam Protection, is fully integrated into Norton's Cyber Safety products and aims to help customers combat modern scams more effectively. This scheme includes protection from fake messages, phone calls, emails, and malicious websites, which Norton identifies as primary vectors for cyberattacks. According to the company, these attacks, largely originating from scams, now account for 90% of all cyberthreats, a rise that has nearly tripled since 2021.
Leena Elias, Chief Product Officer at Gen, commented, "Today's scams are not the scams you could spot a mile away with the naked eye. Scammers are tapping into AI to speed up their schemes and make them more believable. Couple that with the sheer volume of emails, texts, and calls we're getting every day; it's clear we need technology on our side to help us avoid becoming the next scam victim. We've built enhanced AI-powered scam protection directly into our Norton products to provide the powerful, always-on scam defence our customers need to protect their digital and financial safety. Our top tier plan helps protect you with proactive scam protection plus scam support and reimbursement to help make you whole again if you fall victim to a scam."
In New Zealand, customers will receive the Genie Scam Protection features at no extra cost within Norton's Cyber Safety products, which include Norton AntiVirus Plus, Norton Mobile Security, and Norton 360 plans. These features involve Safe SMS, which targets scams in text messages, and Safe Web, which defends users during online shopping or browsing.
Other features include the Genie Scam AI Assistant, which gives immediate advice regarding scams and suspicious offers, and Norton Private Browser, which prevents phishing attempts and unwanted advertisements, allowing users a more secure browsing experience.
The US sees additional benefits with Norton 360 with LifeLock customers receiving the Genie Scam Protection Pro, providing features like Safe Call, Scam Support and Reimbursement, and Safe Email. These features aim to further secure users from scam calls, support victims of scams in recovering lost finances, and proactively flag suspicious emails.
Although the Genie Scam Protection Pro is currently exclusive to the US, the core features of Genie Scam Protection are available globally, including markets such as Australia, the UK, and New Zealand.
Norton continues to explore future enhancements, including features that will detect deepfakes and scams through advanced AI, indicating a commitment to evolving its cyber safety offerings. The company's ongoing innovations aim to provide consumers with faster and more reliable protection against the ever-evolving landscape of cyber threats.
