Media Excel & Akamai partner to boost video processing

Tue, 10th Sep 2024

Media Excel has formed a strategic collaboration with Akamai to advance the efficiency and affordability of video processing, as announced recently.

This partnership involves the optimisation of Media Excel's HERO encoders and transcoders for Akamai's GPU instances, which aims to deliver significant improvements in video processing performance.

According to Media Excel, their HERO encoders and transcoders will achieve increased density on Akamai's advanced GPU instances. This optimisation will enable content providers to process a higher number of video streams simultaneously without sacrificing quality. "Akamai's GPU-enabled cloud instances provide the perfect platform for our DIVA-enabled encoding technology," stated Narayanan Rajan, CEO at Media Excel. "By optimising the use of both CPU and GPU resources, we can push the boundaries of video processing, offering our customers superior results while minimising their TCO."

Additionally, the collaboration between Media Excel and Akamai introduces financial efficiency to the market. Utilising Akamai's competitively priced GPU instances, the partnership will provide compelling per-channel pricing regardless of scale. This initiative aims to make high-quality video processing accessible to a broader range of content owners and service providers. Dan Lawrence, vice president of cloud computing at Akamai, remarked, "Running Media Excel's high-density video processing solutions on Akamai helps give media companies the control over their workflows that they're asking for. Together, we're helping to make high-performance video encoding, transcoding more affordable at a global scale."

The GPU instances also enable the cost-effective deployment of AI-based encoding on Media Excel's HERO technology, which can significantly reduce the price of bandwidth for customers. As part of the ongoing collaboration, Media Excel and Akamai plan to continue exploring new innovations in video processing, providing customers with advanced tools and technologies necessary for delivering high-quality digital experiences.

This partnership is part of Media Excel's participation in Akamai's Qualified Compute Partner (QCP) Program as an independent software vendor. By integrating its advanced encoding and transcoding technology with Akamai's powerful GPU-enabled cloud instances, Media Excel aims to set a new standard in industry performance and cost-effectiveness.
