Kyocera's green sustainability efforts recognised

FYI, this story is more than a year old

KYOCERA's commitment to reduce greenhouse gases by 30% by 2030 has now been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) this week.

The SBTi, established in 2015 to support the Paris Agreement, is a global conglomerate of organisations that promote environmental action.

The Paris Agreement aims to limit global warming to ‘well below' two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and provides a framework for businesses to set and commit to meaningful targets for emissions reduction. Partners include the UN Global Compact, World Wildlife Foundation, the World Resources Institute, and more.

Kyocera says its efforts to increase sustainability and reduce greenhouse missions are part of the ‘Kyocera philosophy', a key principle that commits to fair management and operation in compliance with the most fundamental human ethical and moral values and social norms. The principle also recognises its Environmental Charter, which focuses on the creation of a low-carbon producing, sustainable society — a society which exists in harmony with nature.

Kyocera Group UK CEO Rod Tonna-Barthet says the company is proud to be endorsed by the SBTi.

“This recognition from a partnership of such prestigious organisations is a really important third-party validation of the steps we're taking to ensure Kyocera is one of the world's most sustainable organisations.

As part of its longstanding program to reduce GHG emissions, Kyocera is prioritising sustainable manufacturing and recycling processes that comply with the ISO 9001 standard, which sets out the requirements for a quality management system that helps businesses to become more efficient.

“With every product and service that we provide, we focus both on how we can best serve our customers and how we can ensure that we make minimal impact on the environment,” adds Tonna-Barthet.

“Whether it's manufacturing components that require fewer raw materials or last longer, so need to be replaced less often, or developing products that conserve energy and minimise waste, we are fully committed to reducing our environmental footprint and helping to build a greener, more sustainable world.

Kyocera is also targeting a 10x increase in renewable energy adoption by 2030, compared to 2013 levels, through the implementation of new environmental and renewable energy measure, including the installation of off-site renewable energy generating systems, which are capable of supplying power for production.

“As we continue to enhance our sustainability, this endorsement will encourage our staff and leadership teams to keep making improvements to our business and strengthen our focus on carbon emission reduction,” concludes Tonna-Barthet.
