JOLT launches next-gen 50kW charger with faster free top-ups
JOLT has released a new 50kW DC electric vehicle charger, which doubles the charging speed of its previous units and continues to provide users with 7kWh of free charging per day via the JOLT app.
The first installation of the next-generation charger has been completed at Melbourne's Bayside City Council, with further rollouts planned across Australia in the coming months.
The updated charger offers 50kW of DC fast charging capability, allowing drivers to add up to 45 kilometres of range in approximately 8–10 minutes. The product aims to provide a practical solution for those who need a quick charge while running short errands or stopping for coffee. The existing commitment to free daily charging remains a key feature, aiming to reduce the running costs for electric vehicle drivers.
One of the notable features of the new design is its "flagpole" structure, which integrates advanced cable management with a five-metre reach. This extension, which is more than 25% longer than standard chargers, aims to improve accessibility for various types of vehicles and different parking bay layouts. The new charger is also designed to be straightforward to use, with lightweight cables intended to be manageable for users of all abilities.
An additional adjustable cable holster allows the cable plug height to be tailored to the specific site, supporting accessibility compliance and inclusive design. The device also features base skirt lighting for improved visibility and safety during night-time charging sessions, responding to the requirements of urban streetscapes.
Doug McNamee, Chief Executive Officer of JOLT, commented on the launch: "The new 50kW chargers represent the next step in our mission to enhance global EV ownership and charging experiences for users through innovation, premium design and performance."
"The chargers' unique look and feel are the result of specific insights into visual impact and city infrastructure, which showed the need for our charging network to continue to combine aesthetics with function, while also meeting the highest standards of durability, safety and tech compatibility."
"The new chargers showcase JOLT's continued investment in innovation, customer experience and sustainable infrastructure, aligning directly with our mission to accelerate EV adoption and support communities with high-quality, public charging solutions."
JOLT has indicated its intention to introduce charging stations internationally, including markets such as Canada, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand, in response to the growing adoption of electric vehicles in these regions. The expansion will feature a combination of existing 25kW and new 50kW chargers, tailored to the usage and energy demand patterns of different markets.
In Australia, the use of electric vehicles has continued to increase, with ownership expected to reach about 2.5 million vehicles by 2030, according to the Electric Vehicle Council.
Beyond servicing EV drivers, the new charger also supports JOLT's advertising solutions through high-brightness digital screens and an increased urban footprint. This design enhances opportunities for brands to reach engaged EV users and roadside audiences.
JOLT experienced significant growth in its global network last year, expanding by 92% and increasing the number of charging locations available to drivers. In the United Kingdom, the company received recognition at the 2024 Electric Vehicle Innovation & Excellence Awards, winning the Best EV Start-Up of the Year and Best New Services (C&I & Public) categories.
Earlier this year, JOLT announced a partnership with the Canada Infrastructure Bank valued at USD $214 million, aimed at installing up to 1,500 new kerbside EV chargers in Canadian urban centres. This initiative is intended to provide Canadians with wider access to charging infrastructure.
The new 50kW charger marks another development in JOLT's efforts to adapt and expand its offerings for EV drivers, cities, and advertisers both in Australia and abroad.
