Infosys unveils AI features for Australian Open 2025
Infosys, in collaboration with Tennis Australia, has introduced a new suite of artificial intelligence-driven features for the Australian Open 2025, aiming to enhance fan engagement and provide deeper insights for players and coaches.
The launch highlights the seven-year partnership between Infosys and Tennis Australia, focusing on advancing digital interactivity in the sport through AI technology. At the forefront of this initiative is the "Beyond Tennis" league, described as the world's first generative AI-powered tennis league. This league offers fans a year-round digital experience, allowing them to engage with AI-crafted virtual players, manage teams, and participate in tournaments generated by AI.
Andrew Groth, Executive Vice President - Asia Pacific, Infosys, stated, "Each year at the Australian Open, we have pushed the boundaries of technology to fuel fan engagement and player performance. Infosys is proud to bring the latest generative AI innovations to court, from the fan-driven Beyond Tennis league to AI-amplified VR experiences, leveraging our industry leading AI-suite of offerings Infosys Topaz. Through this collaboration with Tennis Australia, we are enabling truly innovative platforms for fans, players, coaches, and media to engage with the sport."
Another key feature involves AI-Powered Commentary, harnessing advanced language models to deliver real-time, byte-sized insights during each match via the Australian Open's digital platforms. The platform will provide new dimensions of accessibility and information to audiences.
Adding a layer of virtual interaction, the Infosys Fan Zone at Melbourne Park introduces a VR AI Stadium. In this space, fans have the opportunity to create bespoke virtual courts utilizing a generative AI speech-to-image function. This capability allows for customisation from galaxy-themed courts to designs reminiscent of the 1970s.
In terms of player and coach empowerment, AI tools such as AI Videos offer in-depth post-match analysis and pre-game preparation through video analytics. Furthermore, the AI Shot of the Day feature supports AO's media team by providing appealing digital content efficiently, allowing swift distribution of video clips highlighting key moments on court.
Craig Tiley, CEO of Tennis Australia and Australian Open Tournament Director, remarked, "For the past seven years, Infosys has helped Tennis Australia to raise the bar and serve up new experiences for fans using digital technologies. We're excited to see the leaps being made with AI at AO 2025. AI is enabling new dimensions of interactivity for fans and insight for players, not to mention the speed and scale it brings to our content delivery. It's an exciting leap forward that showcases how technology and AI is transforming tennis."
Sustainability also plays a vital role in this initiative. The Infosys Fan Zone is designed to be climate active, with its carbon footprint entirely offset, and all structures are fully recyclable. Additionally, the partnership supports the Future Leaders Program, which equips participants with essential skills such as inclusion, leadership, and generative AI exploration through the Infosys Springboard digital learning platform.
