Holding Redlich adopts AI drafting tool to boost legal efficiency
Holding Redlich has implemented Lexis Create+ across its national practice, bringing AI-powered legal drafting directly into the Microsoft 365 environment used by its lawyers. The initiative is designed to speed up document creation while maintaining consistency, accuracy and compliance with internal standards.
AI-enabled drafting
Lexis Create+ integrates artificial intelligence with LexisNexis legal research and internal knowledge sources, creating a single drafting environment within Microsoft Word. This approach allows lawyers to locate relevant clauses, references and precedents from both the firm's own repositories and the wider LexisNexis content subscription. The integration aims to produce legal documents more effectively and with greater precision.
Workflows and training
Keren Smith, Chief Knowledge Officer at Holding Redlich, said the transition to AI-assisted drafting has been supported by staged training across the firm. Power users were onboarded first, followed by comprehensive training for all practitioners on how to apply precision prompting and perform thorough fact-checking.
"We are excited to unlock the efficiencies of Lexis Create+ to elevate both our internal workflows and the quality of service we deliver to clients. Following the successful onboarding of our power users, we rolled out comprehensive training to all practitioners, focusing on precision prompting and rigorous fact-checking techniques," said Keren Smith, Chief Knowledge Officer, Holding Redlich
Smith added that embedding AI in the drafting process has enabled Holding Redlich to meet standards of professional diligence while increasing the efficiency of document preparation. "Embedding AI into the drafting process has enabled us to maintain accuracy and oversight while increasing the pace of document preparation. The technology supports our focus on delivering high-quality work while maintaining professional standards," said Smith.
Integration features
Lexis Create+ combines proprietary technology with connectivity to iManage, SharePoint, Google Drive and other management systems to facilitate seamless access to relevant legal information. Its drafting tools allow for the integration of clauses and definitions from internal templates and external legal research sources. Additional features, such as AI-powered summarisation, support detailed and compliant document creation.
Data security is addressed through the use of encryption, permission mirroring and robust access controls, supporting compliance with legal and regulatory requirements for confidentiality.
AI assistant
The technology includes Protégé, a generative AI legal assistant embedded into Microsoft Word. Protégé enables users to refine drafts, surface pertinent clauses and precedents, and enhance the quality of legal arguments. This functionality helps lawyers access proven language and relevant case law while staying in the familiar Microsoft 365 environment.
The product also leverages capabilities from LexisNexis' acquisition of Henchman, extending advanced clause management, proofreading and collaborative drafting features.
Collaboration with LexisNexis
"We are proud to partner with Holding Redlich, a leading Australian law firm recognised for its specialist expertise and commitment to innovation. Our ongoing collaboration supports lawyers in making confident decisions and delivering excellent client service," said Katy Fixter, Managing Director, LexisNexis Asia Pacific
Lexis Create+ is positioned by LexisNexis as a tool to help legal professionals reduce repetitive drafting and maintain high-quality outputs by leveraging firm repositories and legal content in one environment.
Responsible adoption
Holding Redlich has indicated that its use of the platform aligns with broader goals of responsible adoption of emerging technology. The firm is seeking to combine human expertise with the efficiency gains of AI tools in legal practice.
Smith said, "These tools assist lawyers in producing accurate and timely documents, while the human element remains essential. Our aim is to ensure technology continues to complement professional judgment and legal expertise."
