Google introduces comprehensive new security platform
Google has announced the launch of Google Unified Security, new security agents, and a suite of enhancements across its security portfolio aimed at enhancing security outcomes for organisations globally.
Google Unified Security addresses the challenge of complex enterprise infrastructures by integrating threat intelligence, security operations, cloud security, and secure enterprise browsing into a single solution. This new approach aims to provide streamlined defence mechanisms across an organisation's entire digital landscape.
According to Michelle Abraham, Senior Research Director, Security and Trust, IDC, "Google Unified Security represents a step forward in achieving better security outcomes with the integration of browser behavior, managed threat hunting, and security validation to strategically eliminate coverage gaps and simplify security management and threat detection and response. This approach offers organisations a more holistic and streamlined defence against today's complex threat landscape."
The platform integrates multiple product experiences by pulling browser telemetry and asset context from Chrome Enterprise to enhance threat detections, integrating Google Threat Intelligence with security validation, and enriching cloud risk data to more effectively manage security incidents.
Bashar Abouseido, CISO at Charles Schwab, remarked, "Google is transforming security operations and enabling our vision to stay proactive in responding to cyber threats. Automated response capabilities have dramatically reduced our investigation resolution time while providing a high degree of visibility and scale across our entire computing environment. The platform has empowered our team to focus on strategic initiatives and high-value work."
Craig McEwen, Deputy CISO at Unilever, further added, "I see Google and its security suite as one of the top partnerships that I have within my organisation. The value they bring, the expertise and the knowledge, the willingness to play with us to explore new opportunities and to look at new areas — it makes them a true partner and someone that we're very happy to be working together with."
Google also introduces agentic AI powered by Gemini, which is expected to bring about a shift in security operations. New Gemini in Security agents will automate routine security tasks and aid analysts in focusing on complex issues. These advancements include an alert triage agent and a malware analysis agent, both expected to preview for selected customers in 2025.
Adnan Amjad, Principal, U.S. Cyber Leader at Deloitte & Touche, commented, "Deloitte Cyber and Google Cloud are working closely together to secure the modern enterprise – which includes using the leading capabilities from both Deloitte and Google to protect data, users, and applications. Google Unified Security brings together a centralised data fabric, integrated threat intelligence, unified SOC and cloud workflows, and agentic AI automation — creating a powerful platform to drive our clients' security transformation."
The announcement includes enhancements in Google Security Operations such as new data pipeline management capabilities and the new Mandiant Threat Defense service, which provides active threat detection and response.
Security Command Center advancements consist of the AI Protection capabilities for AI lifecycle risk management, new data security posture management tools, and a new Compliance Manager to assist with compliance state monitoring.
Additional updates include improved phishing protection in Chrome Enterprise, Mandiant Cybersecurity Consulting services, and expanded Trusted Cloud offering with enhanced identity and data security measures from Google Cloud.
The enhancements showcase Google's effort to consolidate its security tools under the Google Unified Security umbrella to create a cohesive security platform, offering organisations an integrated approach to managing their security posture.
