Fujifilm Australia marks 20 years of innovation & growth

FUJIFILM Australia is celebrating its 20th anniversary as part of the FUJIFILM Group, marking two decades of operations in the imaging and information technology sectors in Australia.

Since joining the FUJIFILM Group in 2004, FUJIFILM Australia has played a significant role in transforming how Australians engage with imaging technology. The company's presence in the market has spanned various areas including digital imaging, printing, and medical technology.

Ryuichi Matoba, Chief Executive Officer of FUJIFILM Australia, expressed pride in the accomplishments of the company. "We are incredibly proud of our journey over the past 20 years," he said. "This milestone reflects our dedication to innovation and commitment to serving our customers and communities. As we look to the future, we remain focused on delivering cutting-edge solutions that meet the evolving needs of the Australian market."

The history of Fujifilm in Australia stretches back over 70 years, with FUJIFILM Australia having emerged from its previous incarnation as Hanimex, a distributor of Fujifilm products before the acquisition by the FUJIFILM Group two decades ago.

The 20th anniversary celebrations took place at the Sydney Opera House and included participation from prominent figures such as FUJIFILM Global CEO Teiichi Goto, Mr. Mark Coure, Member of Parliament and Shadow Minister for Multiculturalism, Jobs, Industry, Innovation, Science and Technology, and Yuichiro Nishida, Acting Consul-General of Japan in Sydney.

Among the significant milestones of FUJIFILM Australia's journey are its contributions to healthcare, where the company has provided advanced medical imaging solutions. An example of this is the installation of the first Fujifilm Open MRI Machine in Sydney and the launch of the AI-powered Amulet Sophinity mammography system, the first of its kind outside Japan.

The company has also embraced the digital transformation in the early 2000s, releasing products that set new standards in imaging quality. These advancements included digital cameras and printing solutions popular among both professional and amateur photographers, with recent releases like the Fujifilm X-M5 and GFX100S II targeting content creators and professional photographers.

In terms of sustainability, FUJIFILM Australia has initiated various projects aimed at environmental responsibility. These include the use of entirely recycled paper for Instax packaging and water conservation practices at its Melbourne factory. The company also made efforts in waste collection, having accumulated 961 kilograms of rubbish around its offices in 2024.
