EFM unveils iPhone 17 cases with D3O tech & sustainability focus

Fri, 24th Oct 2025

EFM has released a new collection of iPhone 17 cases and screen protectors for the Australian market, featuring D3O impact protection technology and an emphasis on sustainability.

The range includes several distinct cases designed for varying needs and preferences, all featuring D3O materials, a technology used in high-performance environments such as sports, the military, and the automotive sector. EFM holds exclusive rights in Australia to use D3O technology in mobile device protection products.

D3O is known for its impact-absorbing properties, which are designed to improve drop resistance, enhance clarity, and provide antimicrobial protection for device accessories. The EFM iPhone 17 range integrates D3O Zero, promoted as the world's most sustainable impact protection material, being made from 99% recycled content.

"Consumers want confidence that their devices are protected without compromising on style or sustainability," said Carl Bonham, Chief Executive Officer of Force Technology. "By partnering with D3O, we're delivering the best of both worlds: world-class impact protection with thoughtfully designed, eco-conscious products tailored for Australian lifestyles."

The range is available via major retailers including JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone, as well as through independent stores and online channels. EFM is backed by Force Technology, part of Stealth Group Holdings, one of Australia's largest distributors and retailers.

Case collections

The Volta Case Collection features D3O Bio, which is a plant-based variant of the impact protection material. The case design includes iridescent, semi-transparent elements and anodised aluminium accents. According to EFM, this case aims to combine "premium sophistication" with technological protection.

The Ibiza Case & Accessory Collection is designed for lifestyle needs, featuring D3O Zero bumpers and additional features such as a glow-in-the-dark MagSafe ring and an optional glowing wristlet. This model is positioned for users engaging in nighttime activities or outdoor events such as festivals and camping trips.

For general daily use, the Alta Case Collection uses D3O Bio and features a slim kickstand that facilitates hands-free device use. EFM claims the case offers 4.8-metre drop protection and combines functional design with style.

The Cayman Protective Case stands out with a claimed drop resistance of 7.2 metres. Additional features include reinforced corners, scratch resistance, antimicrobial coatings, and recycled materials. The Cayman earned a Good Design Award in 2023, according to the company.

The Slim Lite Case for iPhone Air is designed to remain unobtrusive while still offering D3O impact protection. EFM describes it as "ultra-slim and feather-light," aiming to protect without altering the device's appearance.

Completing the range, the Glass D3O Screen Guard claims six times the shatter resistance of an unprotected screen. It features 9H scratch resistance, blue-light filtering, antimicrobial protection, an anti-fingerprint coating, and 30% recycled glass content.

Design and distribution

EFM has stated that all products have been locally designed, with a focus on style, usability, and durability, catering to the Australian market. The company also highlights the use of 100% recyclable packaging across its product line.

In its announcement, EFM emphasised that it is "the exclusive brand in Australia licensed to use D3O in mobile device protection products, a unique advantage that ensures its accessories stand apart in quality and performance." The company also notes integration of the same impact protection technology "trusted by leading global brands such as Adidas and Formula 1."

D3O is a UK-based impact protection specialist whose materials are utilised by defence organisations, sports teams, and brands. Its formulations, such as D3O Bio and D3O Zero, are engineered to absorb and dissipate energy upon impact, contributing to the devices' drop and scratch resistance.

The partnership between EFM and D3O aligns with a trend in the accessory market towards products that combine sustainability with high-performance standards. EFM notes the integration of D3O Zero represents "a sustainability milestone," with the company positioned as "the first Australian brand to integrate D3O Zero - the world's most sustainable impact protection material made from 99% recycled content - into its product portfolio."

The products are available now through a network of retailers nationwide and online.
