Bitdefender expands offerings with RedSocks acquisition

24 Oct 2018

Cybersecurity company Bitdefender has announced its acquisition of behaviour and network security analytics company, RedSocks Security BV (RedSocks).

As part of its ongoing merger and acquisition strategy, the investment expands the Bitdefender portfolio and addressable market into network security and analytics territory, and marks another step on its growth trajectory.

Netherlands-based RedSocks specialises in automated detection of suspicious network behaviour and combating cybercrime.

By combining artificial intelligence and cyber threat intelligence, RedSocks provides non-intrusive, real-time breach detection solutions and incident response services for its customers.

The company serves a market demand resulting from the high-profile breaches that existing, in-place network security tools have failed to prevent.

Bitdefender CEO and founder Florin Talpes says, “By bringing the RedSocks network security analytics and threat intelligence into the endpoint prevention, detection and response platform GravityZone, customers will benefit from a more comprehensive, layered approach to security and deeper visibility into their threat landscape.”

RedSocks founder Pepijn Janssen says, “When we started RedSocks in 2012, our goal was to build solutions that would serve any type of organisation and offer them value for the long term.”

Both the US and Europe are key markets for Bitdefender.

While the RedSocks portfolio will open more sales opportunities for Bitdefender worldwide, the acquisition of RedSocks will also accelerate the company’s go-to-market traction within Europe.

Bitdefender has been active in the Netherlands market for more than 12 years with both consumer and business solutions and has a legal seat there.

With the addition of the RedSocks office and its staff, Bitdefender will increase its business in the Netherlands, and gain a foothold within the Northern European region.

The RedSocks deal closed on October 11, 2018, and follows another merger last month which created Bitdefender Australia and the Bitdefender direct entry into the Asia Pacific market.

This new acquisition, which was assisted by I5 Invest Gmbh, transfers all RedSocks assets, customers and employees to the Bitdefender Group.

The current RedSocks office and its network-experienced team will become Bitdefender Netherlands.

“Both teams could not be more excited to collaborate and innovate to bring greater value to our customers and partners’,” says Talpes
