Bigmate deploys AI quality platform on Equinix in Sydney
Brisbane-based Bigmate has deployed its new Anomaly and Contamination Identification System on Equinix infrastructure in Sydney as it targets global growth for its industrial AI platform.
The move places Bigmate's latest quality analysis system, known as ACIS, inside an Equinix International Business Exchange data centre in Sydney. The company also uses Equinix Fabric to interconnect with cloud providers and customers.
Bigmate specialises in AI-driven safety and operational intelligence in high-risk industries such as mining. Its new platform extends that focus into automated quality control in manufacturing and food production.
New AI approach
ACIS uses computer vision and machine learning to detect product defects, contaminants and production inconsistencies on manufacturing lines. The system analyses large volumes of image data in real time.
Bigmate says the platform adopts a different training model from many defect-detection systems. It trains AI models on examples of acceptable products rather than on catalogues of faults.
Gregory Graham, Chief Operating Officer, Bigmate, said: "ACIS fundamentally changes how businesses approach quality control - instead of cataloguing endless defects, we teach the system what 'good' looks like. This paradigm shift combined with Equinix's stable and proven high-performance foundation provides what we need to deliver this AI-driven capability to our customers. Importantly, it allows us to interconnect with our partners and customers privately and securely while scaling flexibly as we grow."
Bigmate states that its AI systems can reach low false positive rates when monitoring both workplace risks and production issues. The company reports rates below 0.05 per cent in some deployments.
Data sovereignty focus
Equinix provides secure hosting for ACIS within Australia. This addresses regulatory and contractual requirements around storage and processing of sensitive operational data.
The Sydney deployment keeps production and safety data inside Australian borders for domestic clients. Equinix also offers certified facilities in Canberra, Melbourne and Perth for customers with higher security and sovereignty needs.
Equinix Internet Access supports the platform with dual-port connections. This structure reduces the risk of downtime and manages traffic spikes during busy inspection periods.
Equinix's interconnection services allow Bigmate to bypass the public internet for many data flows. The companies say this supports direct, private data exchange with customers and cloud providers.
Industrial customers
Bigmate has built its business around mining and heavy industry. Customers in Australia include BMA, Infrabuild, Etex Group, Visy and Coronado Global.
The company also operates in the United States. It provides services there to customers including Ascend and Tyson Foods.
ACIS extends Bigmate's existing product set, which includes proximity and terrain hazard systems. The firm's PAS product focuses on collision prevention, while EVAS addresses edge and void hazards. Its WARNY system monitors warehouse activity.
These systems use cameras, sensors and LiDAR to observe industrial environments. Bigmate's analytics platform processes the data and supports real-time safety decisions.
Global expansion
Bigmate plans to use Equinix sites outside Australia as it expands ACIS and its wider AI portfolio. Equinix operates more than 270 data centres across 77 metropolitan areas.
The partners state that this footprint will support deployments in North America and Europe. It also provides a consistent infrastructure model for multinational customers.
Guy Danskine, Managing Director, Equinix Australia, said: "Equinix is pleased to support Bigmate as they bring innovative AI-powered solutions to market. This is another example of how digital infrastructure and interconnection provide the secure, scalable, and high-performance environment that empowers companies like Bigmate to set new standards for efficiency and quality while meeting customer data sovereignty needs. We look forward to supporting their continued growth, both here in Australia and internationally."
Bigmate plans further rollouts of ACIS across manufacturing, food processing and logistics customers as it builds out its presence in international markets.
