AI reshapes procurement as Australian organisations seek agility
Senior procurement leaders across Australia are turning to artificial intelligence to strengthen sourcing strategies amid ongoing supply chain challenges and economic headwinds. A recent roundtable brought together executives from major organisations to discuss the role of automation and AI in procurement decision-making and supplier management.
AI and human input
Companies are increasingly exploring how AI can be blended with human experience to reshape procurement. JAGGAER's Global Vice President Presales Consulting, Francesco Colavita, highlighted the importance of balancing technology with human judgement.
"By combining the efficiency of AI with human expertise, organisations can move beyond repetitive tasks and focus on strategic decision-making. Our goal is to empower procurement teams to work smarter, respond faster to market changes, and build stronger, more collaborative relationships with suppliers, all while maintaining full oversight and ethical control of their processes. The human-centric AI approach represents, for JAGGAER, a crucial element in driving a company's successful digital transformation in procurement." said Francesco Colavita, Global Vice President Presales Consulting, JAGGAER.
Discussions at the executive roundtable focused on agentic AI and automation, with representatives from organisations such as the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Macquarie University, icare and Ampol cited as participants. Delegates examined how procurement teams are adapting to rapidly shifting market conditions with the aid of digital tools.
Industry recognition
Several organisations received recognition for achievements in sourcing and procurement. Macquarie University was awarded for excellence in research material management, while the ABC, icare and Ampol received source-to-contract awards. In Melbourne, the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV) and HealthShare Victoria also received awards for source-to-contract achievement and longstanding customer recognition, respectively.
Regional commitment
JAGGAER has signalled an ongoing investment in supporting customers across Asia Pacific, stating the region will remain central to its business. Hany Mosbeh, Senior Vice President - Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa, reinforced this message in remarks at the event.
"At JAGGAER, we remain dedicated to supporting our customers as their needs evolve. The Asia Pacific region will continue to be a key focus for us, and we will continue to commit to and invest in the region to empower our customers on their digital transformation journeys. In today's fast-changing markets, organisations require solutions that not only streamline procurement but also enable them to be agile and strategic. Our AI-powered source-to-pay solution does just that," said Mosbeh.
Technology assessment
JAGGAER was recently identified as a leader in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide AI-Enabled Buy-Side Contract Life-Cycle Management Within Suites 2025 Vendor Assessment. The analysis highlighted JAGGAER Contracts as valuable for large enterprises in tightly regulated sectors, providing improved visibility, control, and efficiency across contract portfolios and supporting collaboration between procurement, legal, and finance functions.
The IDC MarketScape cited strengths including scalability for complex, compliance-driven environments, integrated workflows across the source-to-pay spectrum, and practical AI designed specifically for procurement-driven operations.
