Tecala partners with Check Point to boost Australia's email security

Tecala, a technology service provider, recently revealed that it has been appointed a Check Point Software Technologies partner in Australia, to enhance customers' email cybersecurity posture. The partnership concentrates on the provision of extensive cybersecurity solutions that not only shield against known threats but also predict and reduce emerging risks.

Tecala is employing Check Point's patented Harmony Email and Collaboration technology to build its Next Generation Email Security solution. Utilising artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), the platform analyses users' previous interactions and email usage behaviours. In doing so, Tecala can provide foresight into intricate email security threats such as Business Email Compromise (BEC), a type of scam which has a growing incidence rate and the potential for large-scale harm.

According to the FBI, BEC scams have cost global organisations more than USD $43 billion. With companies facing an average of 1,248 cyber-attacks per week, AI-powered cybersecurity solutions are becoming a crucial tool to counter increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. BEC 3.0 scams, leveraging legitimate services, require a more robust approach to email security.

Tecala's cybersecurity solution scans every attached file and email for malware and ransomware in the cloud, catching and identifying harmful emails and files before they land in the user's inbox, therefore protecting both users and their inbox data. Check Point's unique technology, automatically blocking compromised accounts based on AI analysis, allows for training and calibrating the AI on a specific environment, facilitating the identification and blocking of attacks unique to an organisation.

Dominic Sargent, Global Director of Technology at CXC Global, an end-user of Tecala’s Next Generation Email Security solution, has seen some remarkable improvements since its implementation. Sargent reported that nearly 60,000 spam emails previously ending up in staff inboxes were halted, about 1500 individual phishing campaigns were prevented, and around 350 emails from fraudulent senders were identified.

Confirming the benefits of employing AI and ML in their cybersecurity solutions, Sargent noted, "These new security enhancements and AI/ML capabilities have significantly reduced the chances of phishing campaigns being successful. The new security platform also has a contextual awareness of typical communication patterns. This makes it much easier to flag activity that is potentially malicious for closer examination by the IT team."
